When you hear the word chiropractic do you think of care for the spine? Would you be surprised that the 1st chiropractic patient was cured of 17 years of deafness, and the 2nd was relieved of a heart condition. Millions of people have praised chiropractic for saving them from headaches, colds, allergies, asthma, sciatica, arthritis, seizure, ear infections, stomach troubles, gynecological problems, and many other conditions in addition to back pain. Yet most people think that chiropractic is for back pain only. Why is that?
About 85% of the population will suffer from disabling low back pain at least once in their lives! According to research 6.8% of the US adult population is suffering from a episode of back pain lasting more than 2 weeks. That's a lot of bad backs. The estimated cost of this problem in the US is over $50 billion a year.
The standard medical approach to back pain varies depending on the severity of the condition. Muscle relaxers, painkillers, rest, and physical therapy such as traction, ultrasound, ice, and other modalities. This approach has not been found very helpful. If pain persists or worsens, then surgery may be performed. The medical approach is necessary at times. But according to some studies, back surgery should rarely be performed. Many people who have surgery have a recurrence of the pain within a year or two. In many cases it does not offer any relief, but in others it does provide long term relief.
Your chiropractor will relieve you of the vertebral subluxation complex, which is a severe abnormality that interferes with your nervous system and your body’s proper function. Once your chiropractor relieves you of the vertebral subluxation complex, your body will function better.
Chiropractors have saved millions of people with low back pain, often saving them from pain, disability, drugs, and surgery. The purpose of chiropractic care is to make your spine and its nerves, discs, and muscles healthier, stronger, and more stable by correcting your vertebral subluxations. Anyone suffering from a back problem should see a chiropractor to make sure there are no subluxations and to have them removed or corrected if found. This may make the difference between a life of health and comfort or a life of pain, disease, and disability.
Major government studies from the U.S., Canada, and the rest of the world have reaffirmed what chiropractors and chiropractic patients have been telling their friends and families. Low back pain sufferers under chiropractic care get better much faster than with drugs or surgery, while being under a much safer form of care as well.
A 1994 U.S. study by the federal government stated that chiropractic is the most preferred and most effective method of care for acute adult low back pain. Medical experts spent 2 1/2 years reviewing about 4,000 studies and reported that expensive tests (MRI, CAT scans) and therapies typically used to diagnose and treat low back pain are largely useless. The experts recommended the drug-free chiropractic approach! The objective of chiropractic care being symptomatic pain relief and functional improvement, through the removal of vertebral subluxations, was the only care recommended. It further stated that bed rest of more than 4 hours was harmful, muscle relaxants, other drugs, and surgery can be unnecessary and harmful. Surgery was found to be only helpful in about 1 in 100 people, and in most it caused more problems.
The Magna Report out of Ontario, Canada found that chiropractic care for low back pain was superior to medical care in safety, scientific evidence of effectiveness, cost, and patient satisfaction.
Scientific studies have been done by medical physicians comparing chiropractic care with medical care and physical therapy non-surgical care for back and neck show that chiropractic relieves chronic and sever pain, both immediate and long term, in one half the time it takes medical physicians (who are not trained in chiropractic procedures). There are now over 60 studies showing the value of the chiropractic adjustment, stating that it is the most effective and cost effective form of treatment for dysfunctional problems, in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spinal regions.
Studies have shown that without a doubt chiropractic works better, is safer, and less costly than medical treatment for low back pain. Why are the results so overwhelming? Because pain killers, muscle relaxers, braces, physical therapy, and surgery are not designed to correct the vertebral subluxation.
Only chiropractic is!!
